It’s not much of a secret for those who work with me and who are my friends that I’m a big Mississippi State University fan. And as any good Mississippi State fan knows, Thanksgiving week means that it’s time for the Battle for the Golden Egg with our rivals Ole Miss (of which I’m a law school alum).
Again, I’m a Mississippi State alum and a big fan of the school, but it seems like they’ve been doing everything right when it comes to marketing the program. And I think they’ve hit another big marketing homerun with their latest move.
For this week’s in-state football rivalry game the traditional endzone wording “MISS. STATE” has been replaced with the hashtag #HAILSTATE. For those of you not familiar with the MSU program, Hailstate is the name of our fight song and quickly becoming a ubiquitous phrase throughout the state for fans (and rivals) of the school.
Here’s a picture of the endzone that’s going to be shown on TV for viewers and fans to see. Again, it’s a masterful bit of marketing in my opinion. I’m sure that potential students will take notice of the message, as well as fans and arch-rivals. If you want to look like the up-and-coming forward thinking program and school that you are then this is a great way to show it. All I can say is, Hail State!
